well the first few days of fall have been beautiful! wait. what? it's supposed to be summer? it's so amazing to me...from living in texas my entire life, i think it's been ingrained in my head that 100 degree humidity is the only summer that exists. and i am pleasantly surprised to find that i am completely wrong. although we've had a lot of afternoon rain showers and a humid day or two, there have been many gorgeous days with cool, breezy weather. makes you actually want to spend time outside!
so we celebrated our 2nd anniversary last week. it's the cotton anniversary. here's how we do anniversary gifts:
1) it has to do with the theme
2) it has to be something that will last
3) it has to have some meaning behind it
4) cost is not important...be it free or highly expensive.
last year was paper. i made marcus a book of all of our love notes/emails. it started with our very first casual "i'm glad we're friends" 99 cent card, continued with a selection of emails and cards that we sent when we were apart, and ended with the card i gave him the night before our wedding. he gave me two gifts. the first was a small bouquet of paper roses that matched our wedding colors. the second was this hysterical fake newsletter with "articles" about our history. it was quite creative!
this year, i got marc a texas flag. when we first moved in, he was so excited to hang one in our garage. but when he went to unload the box that it was supposed to be in, all he found was an old, ratty tech flag. thus began my hunt for a cotton flag online. he actually seemed thrilled when he opened it. we are now proudly displaying our true affection for all in the neighborhood to see!
for my gift, he (again) was very crafty. the neighbor behind us is a seamstress. so he took all of our wedding paraphernalia (newspaper announcements, save the date card, pictures, invitation, program) over to her and had her make a small quilt out of them. it's really neat! he even picked out our wedding pinks as the border accents. puts me to shame every time. :P
after gifts, we went to an italian restaurant where i proceeded to stuff myself with entirely too much food. the best/worst part about the tail end of our dinner was that marc kept trying to make me laugh, which HURT because i was so full. i honestly thought i might puke right there at the table, waiting for the check. but i couldn't stop laughing either. he kept impersonating our nasally mid-west waitress' accent saying the special of the night "mahi-mahi." i'm pretty sure you had to be there to appreciate the humor/horror of hearing her repeat the special to each table, but i am laughing even now as i write this. this is why i married this man...only a true love would torture you with uncontrollable giggling in a public place when you feel as though your stomach will explode. sigh... :)
Who knew Marcus was such a romantic and so creative!
ReplyDeleteThings are looking good for the Garleys! Congratulations on the successful anniversary! You two have a great start on traditions with a theme matching the number. Congratulations on the new job! Now you can actually relax and enjoy your summer and new home! Love your blog. I'm starting one as soon as I:
ReplyDelete1. learn to put pictures on
2. Think of a creative name!!
3. Figure out how to make the site "cute"
Okay Molly... I texted you today, but I finally figured out how to leave a comment. I know pretty sad. :) Congrats on your anniversary and your job!!!!! I am glad you are doing so well. I loved the story about how you ate so much and Marcus almost made you puke. I can so relate. We just got back from vacation yesterday and I felt the same way one night when we were eating Italian at the resort with 8 other friends Paul met. I know that's hard to imagine... Paul becoming friends with complete strangers and inviting them to dinner...but it happened. By the time we left the resort everyone knew Paul and "his wife." I'm not sure that was a good thing.
ReplyDeleteMolly...I love that you posted about your engagement tradition. I think it is so romantic that you take the time to be so thoughtful & it means so much more than a card/last minute gift. It is funny because when we were sitting at Emily's the night of your party I wanted to ask you what your plan was for this year.
